Big Monkey

Hi, Peeps! Thank you for all the warm wishes. First day at the new gig went very well. I met a lot of very nice (and super talented) folks and already learned quite a bit. The hardest thing was sitting there at my new desk...you know, just being in an open cube situation. It'll just take some getting used too...I definitely felt weird about checking email or the internet....which is something I normally do ALL DAY LONG, when working from home. Already though, I totally dig my new cube-mates, Sandra and Kyle. I definitley had my share of questions yesterday and everyone was incredibly helpful. I've already learned a lot of new "quick keys" in Illustrator CS Software! Wooo hooo! Gotta love that. (See, I'm one of those "don't like to read manual" types...so tidbits and tricks shown to me are like golden nuggets)

Here's a drawing of Big Monkey. He's just a really BIG monkey. Kind of an Ashton Kutcher-likes-to-play-cranks and thinks everything is super funny. He shares the house with Nessie, Red and many others. So yes...another old drawing. I think I'll just keep pulling from that particular file until I have time again to draw something new to share. Some of you (drawingboard pals) have already seen these, so I apologize for the repeats!

Thanks again, everyone. It was so nice to read all the (non-spam) comments last night.

ohh, does it? Well, I wouldn't be surprised if some inspiration seeped in. Not intentionally, of course, but all Pixar art rules and I own all the "Art of" books...so, it's possible. You should see my Yeti. He looks a lot like Rankin Bass and I swear I didn't mean to do it. Maybe I'll post that one next.

hi paige! i was wondering what happened last friday without a post.. good luck on your new job! as long as you like your job and doing what you are good at, not to mention getting a paycheck for it, life ain't too bad! cheers!

Just wanna know how to do your draw textures? They're beautiful! When I draw something using computer, they all look kinda flat... even with shadows and gradient fills...

I found your sites (blog and portfolio) browsing Drawn! blog. You're the best! Seriously!

Ah, good luck in your new job! (^_^)

I like him but he doesn't look so much like a monkey as he does a big sasquach. Body is monkey, head is kinda teddy bearish. I think it's the nose. Still he is cool, happy and orange. Orange is good. Bring on the Yeti.

I like the Big Monkey too. I, like the commenter above, have not seen much of your old stuff, so it's a treat. Aren't those spam comments annoying?

Hi there. I do a little Ill and Photshop. But Phsp mainly. I would love to learn some tips tricks from you. My Ill pics all look like aliens. At least that's what ahppenes on my last GD class I took at IVC. But then again it was IVC and the teacher was well, let's say he actually asked me to sign out of the class as "I" knew more about Ill than he did and he felt it was distrupting the class! Go figure.

I love your pics. Good luck on your new job. I start a new job on Monday, but I don't design, that is jsut fun on the side.

You have a wonderful blog. Great links. Good luck with your new job though I can't see why you would have any problems (except in the maintaining a personal life area which, frankly, most everyone has to deal with). I shall return.

You just keep pulling out the cutest characters! He looks a little mad as in kinda crazy. I think it's the eyes. He's nifty! BTW, if you want to block the nasty spam, just go to your settings and under comments you can choose the word verification option. It prevents the automatic spammers from hitting your blog.

Love the monkey! And I'm very excited for you on your fulltime gig. Very curious to see what you have up your sleeve, eh?

To the people who place links to your blog in the comments:

Don't you know that if you click on your name that it takes visitors to YOUR PROFILE WHICH IN TURN TAKES VISITORS TO YOUR BLOG???? Stop with the blatent "hey, check out my blog!" and then posting a link. Doing this is frowned upon by many and is considered spamming. Do everyone, and especially Paige, a favor by being considerate and not spam comment, please. It's ugly!

Anyway, go get 'em Paige! Best of luck to you at your new job! Whoo hoo!

paige said...

Ward! You rule!
thanks.

paige said...

Hye Jin....

You were not the only offender... over the past couple of days I've had tens of spam posts...and I delete those the moment I can. Ward is a trusted web-art-friend of mine and if you'd read my post below his...you would have noted that I agreed with him. So, please, no telling someone else off on my blog. Thank you.

Ward Jenkins said...

Thanks, Paige. And Jin -- I'm just watching Paige's back here. No singling out of anybody -- just a general rant to everyone who's doing this. And who am I? I've been doing this blogging thing for almost a year and have been reading these things since 2002, so I feel I pretty much know what I'm talking about.

I'm sure you meant well, Jin, but it's still a spam comment. It's just rude. That's all I'm saying, so others will know this and maybe take heed. Especially if they're new to this sort of thing.

And for the record, I, too, had the same thing happen to me when I was on Blogger's Blogs of Note earlier this year. I do not understand why people feel that they need to ride on the coat-tails of others who happen to get some major exposure. If you want others to check your blog out, just say something interesting and that's it. More than likely if I like what you said, I'll check out your blog by clicking on your name. See? Easy as that.

Paige,
The very best at your new job! I started a full time job back in May because I couldn't handle the insecurities of not having a regular pay check. You are very talented and you will go far, have no fear!

Marionette said...

Hey Paige, your scribbles are purty. :>

Blogger now has a comment spam filter. It's sad that we need stuff like that, but it's useful for weeding out the crap. I gave in and set it myself after I'd deleted 9 variations on "I really like your blog, whatever it's about. Come look at this website."

paige said...

thanks everyone! I've now added that spam filter, so...hopefully, we'll weed out those random ads.

I'm glad your first days at work are going well. I'm sure it'll keep getting better and better still. And I love that monkey. The head IS a little "bear-ish", but I love him anyway. Keep posting 'em Paige, old or new. We don't care, WE LOVE YOUR WORK!!! :-D

Hi Paige! Your blog is really fun-I wish you all the best at the new gig and I look forward to working with you again someday soon- you are incredibly gifted and inspiring!

Hi Paige, Congrats on the new job. I came across your site a few weeks back and I find it to be a ton of fun. Also, thanks for the info on putting up a banner. I worked on it for about 2 hours yesterday and now my blog looks orders of magnitude better! Also, I've told lots of my friend of your site and have linked your blog on mine. If you want me to unlink it for any reason just say and I will remove it. Till then, Cheers!

Good job, as usual! Im glad to see that you have the spam blocking comment code now, which prevents bots and such...

I dont have one, and am not sure how to get it. So I get random comments like "Free russian porn". So I guess my comments sections are good if you like that stuff, but not for me!
