Illustration Friday: EMPTY

Red. The Black Bear. You might say he's a little "empty". He's sweet as pie, but dumb, dumb, dumb. Bribe him with berries and wine and he'll love you forever.

Ok, sorta cheated this week. No time to draw for Illo Friday right now so I had to dig up something from my files. This lil' character was created (amongst many) for a show I was developing a couple years back. The pitch got good reviews, overall, but it never found a home. waaaaa! My friend Al and I had a great time working on it though. We laughed, we cried and a little like our pal, Red the Black Bear...we consumed much vino too.

Yea! I am happy to re-introduced to Big Red! I loved your whole concept for the pitch. I must admit the Yeti was my favorite character you designed for that show.
Best,
Steve

Excellent.
I wouldn't mind killing a bottle with big red myself.Bet he has good taste.
love his arms

That's a shame you never got a show for Red - he's a cutie! Love his prickly fur.

Bear is cute. I like he’s little ears sticking up like that. So what’s that fish up to then? Looks like he’s having a bit of a chat with someone outside the picture! Perhaps he has had a few sneaky swigs of the poor bear’s wine and is now at that have-I-ever-told-you-?-you’re-sound-man-you’re-sound-you-are stage.
Sorry about that. I think I got a bit carried away there; it’s very late at night here so please excuse me.

Hurray! Red strikes again! Strikes out, maybe? I always liked Bunny's pink fur, but Red always seemed like he'd be a sweet friend. His head may be empty, but I'll bet his heart isn't, hmm?

jaja funnier than joggy bear :D

Additional opinion: I don't think you need be apologetic about drawing from your archives for IF, Paige. I think your position's an enviable one. Having an archive full of images ready for action is a testament to your unstoppable creativity! Neat-o!

What an adorable painting. I especially like the look on his face as he gazes at the berries and wine.

Ah, I remember Red. I always thought he, and the other characters, were super cute. Shame really that they never got picked up, they would have made for such a great show. Still, its good to see him again. Love the tree trunk table

Kactiguy said...

I've never seen him. Where the heck was I. I never get to see the cool stuff. Well.. until now I mean. Cool bear. Now I don't feel so empty.

ooh, Red's cute! haha..

We all love the little characters we have created, even though they may not have found a worthy 'home', yet. But they'll always have a special place in the heart of the creators :-)

Ahh - finally, an artiste true and true of the drawing / doodling kind... Greetings my dear! Me, I am, verily, a mere artist of the written word... I was just perusing your blog and I just love your illustrations! They have such a unique, yet nostalgic look to them. Art has never been my thing, though I always wanted to have that gift. (Unfortunately, I have a tendency to screw up a stick figure!)

I look forward to seeing more of your work!

:)

There is so much happiness in your illustrations, Paige! Even the dead fish that is going to be consumed is content in its fate! Excellent piece as always.

Hi Paige,
I've been told that you could help.
I'm trying to replace my blog title by a graphic i created but though i can now get rid of the title, the graphic doesn't seem to take the good place.
Could you help?
Thanx
Fanny
