Illustration Friday: METROPOLITAN

Here's this week's drawing for Illo Fri....it's a slice of Metropolitan life. I thought about illustrating something with more hustle and bustle, crowds or even a more elegant moment with skyscrappers filling the skies . BUT, I just kept finding myself thinking of a more European/Soho/ parts of San Fran kind of setting instead, though my drawing depicts none of these specifically. A bazillion years ago I studied for a semester in Paris and more recently dated my man in San Fran (before he moved closer)...and the perfect day was to walk around the city neighborhoods and stop somewhere to loiter over a nice latte or glass of wine. That's MY idea of true city life. Here in Los Angeles, my life is more Suburban than Metropolitan...like the song says "Nobody walks in LA". Ahhh... but someday, I would love to live in San Francisco with a scruffy little dog. I hope I won't be 80 then and unable to walk those hills!

I enjoy this illo very much, so relaxing , another side of metropolitan!

I like this. It really captures the feel of metropolitan life, where yes, people do walk their dogs. I saw so many dog walkers during my brief stay in NYC.

Awesome as usual, Paige! I think I enjoy your little blurbs about life just as much as your illustrations.

Any chance you'll be hitting SDCC again this year? Be great to meet up again. Hopefully for more than two minutes this time. ;)

THANK YOU ALL! It pleases me to no end that you all commented on this. I rather like this one myself...I think it's the colors. I love red accents. My apartment is filled with red accents.

Lyn: thanks for stopping by. I was dead serious about my comment on your AMAZING teddy bear...the cutest bear ever.

Alison A: thanks. I think you picked up on what I was intuitively going for....even if I didn't exactly mean to.

RebbeccaShane: thanks to you too!
Yorkies are super cute, but in my mind, this one is a full-blooded mutt. Sort of Benji-ish.

Newspaper Editor: I went to your blog but I didn't pick up on what you meant. Sorry.

The Steves (both of you): Clearly, you know I think you boys RULE so I'm pleased as pie you commented!! Steve Lambe...I'm still undecided about the SD Con...but I'm leaning heavily towards MAYBE. I'll decide for real in the next day or so.

Thanks again...to EACH and every one of you. XO

She looks so confident and SERENE. Can you be serene in the city - it must be early in the morning, walking the dog before she goes to work!

Great site. I shall pass on the word.

I just found your blog and really like your illustrations. As a crazy dog person, I was particularly drawn to this one. I try to make it a mission to defy the "Nobody walks in L.A." and walk places when I can, but there are definitely limitations to that! I'm going to put a link on my site, so I remember to check out your drawings.

Cheers!
