Swan Lake
I decided to take another stab at the whole "Metropolitan" theme from last week's Illustration Friday. Just for fun. So here's she is, the same gal from the illustration below, at the Ballet. Perhaps this is even the same day...after her walk through the city. Of course, it could be the Opera or a theatre show she's attending...but I have a feeling she's there to see the classic "Swan Lake". I remember how much I loved seeing Swan Lake at the Paris Opera House in the late 80's....sitting under that amazing Chagall painting. Oh my, what an overwhelming delight that was.
I almost cried.

And AGAIN, love this one, too!!!
And now, I must steal your brain. And your hand. Give me your creativity! Argh!
Love it! I love the background people, especially.
Wholly Cow, Ward! I just posted this. You're quick. Let's just trade off brains and hands every other week or so. Ok?! I'd like that. Thanks for the awesome compliment.
Wow! You are immensely talented!!
Just beautiful.
Your illustrations are so sweet. They remind me of happy times when I was a little girl reading picture books by hoff et al.
I have just discovered your blog and enjoyed it so much I linked to it on my blog, which I probably should have asked about first, now that I think about it.
nice site :-D
I was just browsing and came across your blog...Love it...those drawings are wonderful!
:) Cool page!
I like it more than the first one and I loved the first one. Great character. You make me want to see the rest of her day. I remember your early work from so long ago. You just keep getting better and better. Don't stop.
Someone needs hormone therapy!
Paige, she's just fabulous! I want to be her and you at the same time. You are ever so talented, and the fresh, fun and cheerful feeling of your illustrations has incredibly wide appeal. Kudos for making us all smile!!
hi Paige! Ditto on what Holie said (do u take student??).
found your site through boingboing and i must say that i love that you're posting your work here.
couldn't find any info on your site, but do you do childen's book illustration as well?

Nice pictures.. they have a good feel to them.
Your illustrations are extremely ALIVE! and brilliantly done.
wonderful work.
Superb work! Keep up going!
great site, vibrate creations.
WOWOWOWOW. Many thanks to ALL of you who've popped on over from BoingBoing.net! What a huge (and happy!) surprise that was.
To briefly answer a few of your questions:
1. I haven't done any children's books. YET. Most all the work I've done on my portfolio site and here has been non-paying work. Most all my paying work is "work for hire" and legally I cannot share it. OR it's other kind of design work I don't necessarily want to show. I do however DREAM of doing children's books and am working on some ideas now. Wish me luck!
2. Do I take students? Wow! What a nice compliment. If you have questions you can always email me and I'll do my best to answer. The more specific your questions the better I'm able to help ( I hope!!) I still feel very much like a student myself though...every day there is so much to learn from other artists, mentors and from making my own mistakes. Here's an excellent thread on Danny Gregory's blog "Everyday Matters" that I think should be required reading for any artist (or human, really) Go Here: http://www.dannygregory.com/weblog/archives/2005_07.html
and read "Slow=Know" on July 7th
Thanks again to all...you really made my day (month, etc)
Love it!
Your pictures are soooooo cute!! Amazing!!I like it:D

I happened to stumble across your site via BoingBoing. And I must say, you have a great gift. I'm in awe.
I'm your newest fan. :)
I love your illustrations! Really Cool!
great work. what software do you use if you use any.
Wow! Great stuff. I doodle all the time but no where near artistry and imagination. Love the cheerful colors and innocense that come across most of your doodles. You've inspired me. Glad I came across your blog. Perhaps I will commission you one of these day when it's the right project. Until then keep it up :)
Please visit my site I would really appreciate it. http://benjenkel.blogspot.com
I love this illustration. When I saw the post's title, "Swan Lake," and then scrolled down to view the illustration below it, I thought the two went perfectly hand-in-hand. The color of her dress, her blond hair, and her place between her parents were the images that struck me and connected well with its title.
I'm very impressed with this and the other illustrations in your blog :)
Simply fantastic! I am so glad to meet you (well, your work @ least). Keep them coming. Big fan.
Dennis
Ladybuggartist: you also have some cool pics like that!

I love the artworks, really. Would you some day write some technical stuff I mean how do you draw, what software you use etc. For me as an artist too it's gonna be immensely interesting.
Awesome work... truly stylish. Kudos!
You got some serious Talent there Paige. Enjoyed your blog immensely.
Yipes, I'm just not sure how to respond to all of your very, very kind words, other than to simply say....THANK YOU.

I also found your site on BoingBoing and am just blown away. Your talent is amazing. I have bookmarked you so I can visit often and see your Friday pictures. I have a feeling this link by BoingBoing to your site is going to open many doors for you. I was recently at Disneyland and the artwork SHAG did for the 50th Anniversary reminds me of your retro work ... but I must say, I like your work better!!!
Really enjoyed your blog and your pictures. Will keep checking from time to time!
xx
Your doodles aren't anything like mine! They're mostly scrawny looking cat like things and flowers. :)

What the!?!!? Holy cow, you're like a big celebrity. I guess people just know good stuff when they see it. Is most of your stuff digital nowadays or do you still pull out the pencil. You have such great textures on this piece. It doesn't look so computery. I like that. Oh, thanks for your comments on my stuff. This blogging thing is all new and fun.
You have a great Blog and great talent! I will come back and spend more time in your archives.

I don't mean this flipantly and I say it in all honesty. I knew the first second I laid eyes on your blog and the picture came up. You're a f@$%ing genius!
Wow Paige, I just found you. Some very nice work here...I'm no art connoisseur, but your "doodles" appealed to me, so that's that. Good job, and I look forward to stopping back and seeing more!
Great googly-moogly! 93 comments? Allow me to be number 94. The first and (definitely) not the last commentor here! Paige, don't forget us little people, now that you're a big artbloggin' star! Boing Boing has done you right. You deserve it, girl.
Way to go!
I really love your art! You're so talented!
Your illustrations are wonderful. A nice slice of life.
Holy Wow, 97 comments, your one popular gal!
O come gather round, watch the show
Sweet dancers twirl as they go
Quite grandly we're dressed
As senses be blessed
From 'side the walls of Metro
We'll listen to music so grand
Carressed by the love of the band
When all's said and done
It surely was fun
With pleasure we'll rise, clapping hands
Tis here I conclude this mere prose
As comment to greatness it goes
Sim'lar to the dwelling
Your peices are swelling
To which I shout "Cheerios!!"
All thumbs up!!!
Awesome set pieces of art...
Well this is 100th comment....

Congrats on the refs from BoingBoing and Blogger! I came to your blog due to the Blogger one and I'm impressed! I love your cheerful, colorful work. I can most definitely see it in a children's book, or in a magazine for adults. I'm thinking the sky's the limit for you. :-)

are you really as beautiful as this blonde lady ?
Paige you rock! Your illustrations are super-cute! This one is perfect...I feel the same way whenever I see Geisha dance...ofcourse standing up and clapping for that sort of thing is strictly frowned upon here, but inside of me, this is exactly the feeling I am trying so desperately to hide! I know a bunch of people already said this but your drawings are so innocent and cheerful....they remind me of my childhood too, and of the simple pleasures of life! You DEFINATELY need to do children's books! You Go girl! Arigatou!
Your work is just plain 'ol fun.
This is oe charming piece! I really dig your work! You have made it into my list of best illustrators!
All my life I have lived in the shadow of my mother who is an extremely talented commercial artist. I can play piano like no tomorrow, but can't draw a stick figure to save my soul, but I would gladly trade talents in a heartbeat. Your work surpasses anything I have ever seen my mother do. It makes me sick, and makes me jealous, and makes me want more all at the same time. I look forward to seeing more in the future. You are amazing.
i like!
amazing illustrations.
keep it up.
love your work my dear, very warm
WOW, that's something you'd expect to advertise a comedy or something.
You'r very nice
Thank your blog is very nice
