Illustration Friday- TRANQUILITY

I guess I've now got birds on the brain (or I'm bird brained!) but this is what I came up with for this week's Illustration Friday theme, which is "tranquility". What's better than a nice soak in a bath after a long day of foraging worms for dinner and building nests? Only thing missing here is a glass of wine, me thinks.

As we all know...there is something particularly tranquil about water... whether one is drinking, soaking, floating or sitting beside it. Personally, I have a lame tub for soaking...it's too short and not very deep. I sometimes pretend it's much more luxurious and accommodating by adding pretty smelling soaps and lighting a candle. Not very creative, but you can sort of escape this way. Still, the damned faucet is drip-dripping and the porcelain against my shoulders is cold. I don't have regular access to a hot tub/spa/jacuzzi either, but those are particularly nice on a cool evening (with said glass of wine). At the end of my swim work-out, if I'm not sharing a lane with anyone else....I take a good solid minute or two to just float. Some might regard it a little strange perhaps, but that 60 seconds of buoyancy, floating atop the water and breathing in deep is a particularly tranquil moment I enjoy. And we all need those moments.

Ah... you've brought about a certain nostalgia for bathtubs. My "shower" is a two-inch deep basin that's so small I can't keep the shower curtain from blowing and sticking to my body. Also, I've had to strategically place little weights to catch water in the right spot so that I don't flood the bathroom...

I guess what I'm saying is, enjoy the tranquility of your water--don't take it for granted!

jimmmer said...

definitely missing a bottle, i mean, glass of wine.

Sylvain said...

Zwello... i was cleaning my feathers when i read your blog thing. How is the water? Cool? Hey, here is an idea: i bring the wine and you fry the worm. Be there at 6.

PS- Of course, being a gentleman, i will bring you some hay for the nest.

...revert "visions" to a place that is home to me... but a place "far far away" for you.. Africa! its different here.. forget what the "establisments" say water is for africa and africans... water remains a sacred "tool" for us... yes it relaxes, it cleanses but more importantly, it is LIFE itself... and life is calm and beatiful even in tumultous places, for without it... we cannot be...

Hip to the notion
Of all the commotion
Worms and a nest full of seeds
A day sure of singing
With feathers full flinging
The garden is where I shall heed

Come smell the sweet flower
And bathe in the shower
Aroma with water so warm
Peace, Comfort we win
I'll snooze with a grin
And rest in tranquility farm

Many thanks to all of you for compliments! This was a pretty quick little illustration but it was fun. Actually think I spent more time on the leaves than anything else!!

on a couple personal notes:

Alison: if my local pool had a jacuzzi I'd more likely be there after my swim! You're lucky!

Kactiguy: LOL! Well, I suppose I could make this a couple squirrels in a birdbath?! ;)

Pulga Atomica: Nice to hear from you! Hola Argentina!

CheezyKat: I'm so lucky to have your prose to go with the drawing. Thank you. It is fantastic. You always make it look so easy too.

WardsMama: thank you for stopping by. I'm a big fan of your son's work and his sites. I also love your granddaughter's artwork!

Me: you're welcomed. I do wish you the best! Keep at it, you're doing great.

Umu: I made them! ;)

Uloo: and you're my favorite NOT-A-MONKEY man!

Give Something Back Nigeria: Your words are beautiful. A poem in itself. Wishing you well.

Sylvain: Merci! Worms are frying and should be ready soon.

Karen W. Don't I know. Man, I'm not used to sweating whilst sitting at my computer. We need it too COOL off, now!

To all others: thanks again! I really appreciate it all.

I can understand how you find floating in water to ba tranquil. It sometimes blows my mind, when i think too hard about it, that I, a solid mass can be floating above water? I know simple science can explain it but it is something wondrous for me.

I suppose my affinity for water has gone to lengths. I am now into scuba diving. I also find myself going for water when I am in stress. The ideal get away is the beach.

I however cannot relate to having a tub. Never had one, well did when I was younger and living with my grandparents but now that I am on my own I do not have that luxury. I used to fill it up and pretend it was my own little sea, like the little mermaid. Hahaha!

I am from the Philippines and well if you live here you will understand why not everyone can indulge in having a tub :) But its all good. I find other means to get my fill of water.

Anyway, I know how it is with a to small tub. But to be honest, I would trade you almost anything for that tub Seeing hwo I've lived in a house with a small bathroom and a small shower, for about 4 years now.

I love your drawings, specially the birds one. And your writing style is fresh like the air. Good!

there is a good point in the scene. Animals also take time to relax in our style! and we think we are so special!!???

I really really like this picture. It's title rings true. I wish I was as artistic as that, I guess I just have to work on it. Keep up the great work, I enjoy seeing them.

i'm not a big fan of the style of art that you present, but i have to say that i was pleasantly surprised by the depth of "tranquility". whether you intended it or not, there are birds in a pedestal bath and there is a contented woman with a slow, cool smile. a picture and a portrait, both.

thanks again, everyone. I'm so happy it made some of you smile and/ or reflect on your own tranquil moments.

Xaos: Suit yourself. I'm not a big fan your "style" either.
